Tuesday Treasury::: Oh The Decadence

Hi Again :)

Here I am. This time I'm bringing you a device of extreme torture. I hope you are prepared for much drooling and gnashing of teeth.

Have any of you ever had one of those French Macaroons? I haven't. Are they as delicious as they look?

Off to eat some chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal cookies....

Lists Lists Lists!

Good Morning!

I will be posting our regular Tuesday Treasury shortly, but Etsy seems to be experiencing some technical difficulties... so in the mean time I have something else to share!

I'm sure most of you have heard of 30 Days Of Lists. If you haven't check out the original here and their new site here. I found them recently and I have to admit I've had very mixed emotions about this. First of all, why didn't I think to do that!?!?!? And second, how much more amazing could this be!?!?!?!? I make lists. Tons of lists. Endless streams of lists. Lists coming out my ears! I have a whole pile of lists I've saved because I'm weird like that. I make at least one list a day, sometimes pages and pages of lists. In fact, The Beard and I are designing a printable pdf To-Do List just for me to share with YOU guys! Ok, you get the idea.

The point is, these girls made a fun daily ritual out of this obsessive list making. I missed it the first time around, but never fear! They are doing another round of 30 Days Of Lists starting September 1st! I want to get caught up before then, since, as I said, I missed it the first time. And June is the only month between now and then that has 30 days....SO... Starting tomorrow I will be doing the original 30 Days Of Lists here on yellow bird, yellow beard in preparation for the September 1st launch! YAY!!! I'm so excited!

{{{To Kam, Justine, and Amy - I both love and hate you all. Congratulations on successfully beating the rest of us to this idea, and on becoming successful doing it! And thanks for sharing!}}}

I hope you're all as excited about this as I am :)

Interrogation::: Alexandra {Lola Nova}

Good Morning Friends!

I am SO excited about today's guest! Alexandra of Lola Nova was one of the very first bloggers I met when I started reading blogs in the not so distant past. She is an exquisite woman of rare taste, a gentle spirit, and a dear dear friend. Her example of motherhood, and wife-hood are inspiring to say the least. Her blog is charming and thoroughly captivating. I simply cannot say enough good things about her. I was hooked on her blog from the get go, but if you want to see the post that truly reeled me in you can find it here. What a loving Mommy she is. Enough from me! Ladies {and gentlemen} I give to you my sweet friend:

1. Tell us a little bit about you as a person.

   Let’s see, my name is Alexandra Smith, though some folks call me ‘Lola’. I’m a mom, wife, crafter, designer, musician, thrifty bohemian homemaker, blogger, gardener, gypsy dancing queen, and a bit of a daydreamer. I live in a little green cottage with The Engineer, Pony Girl, The Buddha Cat, 3 chickens, and an ever changing population of fish. We try to live simply and gently with the occasional wild rumpus thrown in for good measure. Oh, and I have a serious thing for stripy socks.

2. Tell us how/why you started Lola Nova.

   There isn’t really a short answer to this so excuse me while I ramble.
   Lola Nova’s inception really came about during the 2nd trimester of my pregnancy with my daughter. I rediscovered my love of sewing and designing and began a sort of manic period of making for my babe. Soon after, friends - and friends of friends began commissioning me to make things for them. I thought I might start a little business. About this time I started reading some blogs and felt a little spark to start my own. I have always made things and I have always been a wannabe writer so, it seemed a natural thing to do. Though I didn’t just want to write a craft blog; way too much pressure to constantly produce. Thus, “Lola Nova – Whatever Lola Wants” was born as a way to satisfy all of my creative callings. It has also become my shiny place, where I get to record and share all the crazy mixed-up goodness of my days. I am still so flabbergasted and grateful that others enjoy reading about me making my own weaving way through this life.

3. What networking do you do that you feel most helps your blogging business?
   First, I must tell you that I am absolute ‘pants’ at this networking business, no really. I don’t “Tweet” (unless you count my lame attempts at bird calls), I don’t have a Lola Nova Facebook page (maybe I should get one of those), and I hardly ever remember to hand out my business cards. So, I would have to say that the act of blogging itself is my most successful networking tool. Along with the connections I make in the blogging community, word of mouth continues to be the best business helper around.

4. What is your favorite or least favorite post on your blog?

   My favorite posts are usually the ones that are spontaneous but thoughtful, glimpses of life that might have gone unrecorded if not for the blog. MakingHistory is one of my favorites; it was a nice moment of articulating my connection to handmade. Another favorite is Tell me my names, a really sweet Mama moment that I cherish. My least favorite posts are quickly forgotten so, there you go.

5. What do you do when you're not blogging?

   I spend a lot of time with my family. My daughter and I have weekly dance parties, I garden, make stuff, think about stuff to make, write and play music, go exploring, read other blogs. Beyond that, it’s just a pretty boring list of domestic responsibilities and general mayhem with intermittent fort building.

6. {{{The funny question}}} What is something you would have a robot do if you had one?

   Chores. I know, not a very clever answer but the truth. It would give me so much more time to be creative. Or, the robot could start spontaneous neighborhood parades; who doesn’t love a parade?

See, see???? Isn't she amazing! Please pop over to her blog. She has so many amazing things to see.
Thank you so much Lola for doing me the honor of visiting us today. I really am so happy we could borrow some of your time.

Have a wonderful day everyone! Come back next week for a special visit from Tara from Easy Makes Me Happy!

The Gift of Flight

Good Afternoon Friends!

Sorry I'm late! Remember how I took Luna to get his wings clipped last week? Well.... they've grown out since then. So weird. Its supposed to be 6-8 weeks between clippings, not 6 days. So I took him in again today. I told the nice gentleman who clipped Luna's wings again today about our situation and he said that was "very odd". I guess we'll see what happens this time. I'm not feeding him miracle grow I promise.

Needless to say, my crazy coconut wasn't very happy with me... But now he's home and safe and hopefully less likely to run fly away from me :)

Onwards an upwards. Here are our inspiring images for the week. You'll notice plenty of miniature human beings. No, I'm not pregnant, and no I don't intend to be anytime in the next decade...or maybe century. But there are plenty of cute little ones out there!

Tea Party week may be over, but it will live on forever in our hearts!!!! {{{Well, that might be an exaggeration}}} It was such a splendid event! Now I'm thinking this post probably should've been all tea images to end the week with a bang.... oops, sorry about that. Don't forget to head over to Wild Olive again. Mollie still has plenty more fun for us today!

Enjoy your weekends everyone!!

Featured Artist::: Annie Leibovitz / Natalia Vodianova for Vogue

Hello Once More!

For our second artist, we have a very very famous photographer Annie Leibovitz. This series in particular is one she was commissioned to do for Vogue Magazine with model Natalia Vodianova {who is also very well known and talented, just watch out for the mature content}. Annie Leibovitz's take on Alice in Wonderland is different than most I've seen, and very wonderful also {just like most of her other work}. I do especially like how this Alice seems somewhat snotty. I think Disney's Alice, and Tim Burton's Alice are snotty also :)

So, what do you guys think of this version of Alice? A bit too High Fashion? Or just enough? Thoughts?

Featured Artist::: Daniel Egnéus

Hi Again,

Our first artist is Daniel Egnéus. His paintings stem from his lovely and vibrate life in Italy where he lives in Milano and Rome, and his wild day dreams. I love the wistful, dreamy nature of his paintings/illustrations. This series I'm going to show you is called "Mad Hatters". I thought it only too fitting for our Alice themed Tea Party Week :) To read Daniel's biography, or see more of his work, visit his website.

{{{All images found on Daniel's website}}}

My favorites are the crab and the goose. But they are all lovely. Which one is your favorite? Does anyone have any thoughts on the loose, flowing nature of his work versus the rigid lines we are used to in illustration?             Don't forget to check out Daniel's other work!

Alright, I'm off to post our second artist of the day :) See you in a minute.

An Introduction to the Day

Good Morning Friends,

Since this week is Tea Party week, I thought it would be only fitting to feature an artist who has work in the realm of Alice. However, I can't decide between two artists. So  you get to see both. This post is just to tell you that. Oh, and Luna Face says good morning also:

AAAAAnd....The Beard bought me my very own pipe as a {surprise} late birthday gift the other day. It was seriously SO sweet. Our good friend, the one I've mentioned several times who we like to play tennis and go shooting with, was coming over to hang out and smoke pipes with us. I had assumed The Beard and I would share, but he had other plans. When we were about to go out on the porch I made some comment about how I'd still like to get a pipe someday... and he said, "Didn't I get you one?" I said, "No..." and he said, "I think I did. Go look in the pipe box. Why do you think it took me so long to get home from work?" !!!!!!!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! He had run around after work looking for just the pipe for me. SO sweet and thoughtful. He said he got it on that day because he knew I'd be sad I didn't have a pipe all my own that night when our friend came over. I know this has been a long story, but its very special to me. My husband is so thoughtful and loves me so much :)

{{{I think it looks like Luna walked all over it!!!}}}

{{{Ready and waiting for the menfolk}}}

Oh, oh, and there is one more thing before we move on...

Is this not the most amazing baby face you've ever seen!?!?!?!?!? This is Jessica, from A Little Grey's beautiful new baby girl. I just couldn't withstand not showing you all this photo :) You can see her post and more adorable photos here.

Catch ya on the flip side!

Tuesday Treasury::: Tea Party {{{Come One, Come All}}}

Good Morning!

Welcome to the TEA PARTY everyone! For those of you who don't know, Mollie over at Wild Olive is hosting a tea party all week long! The theme is in honor of Alice and her curious nature. There are already so many fun things happening :) Yesterday we made a little imaginary journey back to childhood for a sweet tea party with Eleanor and Maggie from Making Me Cranky. I love the story of Alice In Wonderland very much and therefore I'm super excited about being part of this unique celebration of her tale.

For my part, I've got a special Tea Party Treasury for you today, along with some other fun things I've made for the tea party. Here's the treasury:

Oh so sweet and charming! I especially love the "Eat Me" Cake Toppers :) Next we have the things I've made for this special occasion. An Alice In Wonderland - Tea Party Garland, and a set of Tea Party Notecards that will be part of a giveaway on Wild Olive later this week!

Lastly, {{{and my personal favorite}}} we have an embroidery piece I did this weekend. The Beard did the illustration for me, isn't he amazing? We've decided he will be doing more illustrations for other projects, but more on that later. This piece is special to me. Its my 6th ever embroidered piece and I don't mean to brag but I'm very proud of it. Many of the techniques I used on this one I learned from the lovely Mollie in her Embroidery Basics tutorial series. Thank you so much Mollie for the wonderful lessons. I used different types of thread like you suggested! {{{I.E. The needles in his hat)))

Thank you all so much for joining me! Please don't forget to stop by Wild Olive today and the rest of the week for more Tea Party goodness! Have a great Tuesday everyone!!!

UPDATE!!!  Here is a link to a flickr group I made with all the photos of the Hatter Embroidery.

Hey Again,

I just wanted to stop by again for a quick moment to share with you two very awesome treasuries that I have the privilege of being included in! :::Wow that was a long sentence::: Here they are:
