Recently I've decided to try my utmost to eat healthier meals and snacks. Now when I say this I don't mean I'm going to drink only cranberry juice or eat fat free ice cream. I just mean that I'd like to eat a few less carbs/calories/fats each day.

Step 1::: Research what snacks are healthy. I liked these ..1..2..3.. articles the best.

Step 2::: Buy healthy snacks. Thank you Trader Joes!

I bought::: Edamame, low fat plain yogurt, dried cranberries and mangos, low fat cottage cheese {eeehh...}, hummus, guilt free pita chips, Better'n Peanut Butter, and Ezekiel whole grain bread.

Step 3::: EAT! But not too much.

I tried to find items that fit into WebMD's categories for healthier snacks: Enough calories to be satisfying, but not so many that the snack becomes a meal; less fat and saturated fat than other similar snacks; whole grain and fiber, protein, and/or other nutrients that give them staying power.

You wanna know the best part about all this? Luna Bird can eat most of these things too! Sharing a plate of snacks with my birdie? It couldn't get any cuter. What's your favorite healthy snack?



  1. I like yogurt with fresh fruit, or oatmeal with dried cranberries in it.

  2. An apple with peanut butter is really good. I've been buying some of the the natural and organic PB's and they are tasty! Sabra's pine nut hummus with veggies is good too. I'm trying to do the same thing- it's hard to not just grab a cookie! I also started drinking Naked and Bolthouse smoothies to help make sure I'm getting enough fruits and veggies.

  4. Love, love, love this! I actually totally love healthy snackage, so here's a list:

    Skinny Cow ice cream - it's seriously so good and definitely not as "bad" for you as most ice cream is!

    Sunbelt Oats & Honey natural energy granola bars. Oats, Honey and Coconut make them sweet, yet with only 130 cals a bar, definitely good.

    Dried fruit! I have some banana chips. They're store bought, as are my dried apricots and peaches, BUT I really want to look into dehydrating my own fruits!

    Greek yogurt with fresh fruit and some granola. Greek yogurt is my crack!

    Apple slices with yogurt dip. I promise, you will l-o-v-e 'em!

  5. So many good things up there. I love rice crackers with hummus, an apple with nut butter of just about any kind, a handful of raw almonds. I can also put a dent in some edamame. :) I hope your healthier snacking makes you feel awesome and energized!


  6. Yay for healthy snacks! When I'm shopping I always look for things that are going to fuel my body, such as things with healthy fat, protein, good carbs. Hummus is one of my FAVS! If I can catch the red, yellow or orange peppers on sale, I snag a bunch and dip strips of them in hummus...also cucumbers with hummus mmmmmm.

    I could talk about food all day, so I'll stop. haha

    Also, I absolutely love edamame. We get big boxes of little individual packets from costco for pretty cheap.
