The Best of 2012

I'll be honest, I'm having a hard time accepting that this year is already over. It's probably been the most exciting, adventurous year of my life and I feel so ridiculously blessed by everything God had provided for The Beard and I. I tried to narrow down my favorite posts to one or two per month but I just couldn't do it. So here are my favorite memories from 2012 - unabridged!

Gifts and Lights

Hi Friends!

Today I bring you photos of gift wrapping and Christmas lights! The Beard and I didn't give each other very many gifts on Christmas day this year... we were bad and gave most of our gifts early. We love doing that! But I was really happy with the two that I did end up wrapping so I wanted to show you.

Yay! So simple and easy. I used my regular brown mailing paper, some natural jute twine from Le Box Boutique, red hemp twine from Hemp Beadery, and some local flora and fauna I found near the reservoir.


I also wanted to share some of my photos from our Christmas Eve walk. We went to dinner at City Landing on the water near downtown then walked through the Public Gardens and down the Comm. Ave Mall which was ah-mazing. The Public Gardens are always beautiful but the Comm. Ave Mall was breathtaking. It's a residential street {about 10 blocks long} with a park/sidewalk running down the middle lined with trees. It was so nice to stroll along and get to hold hands in the cold. It felt like something out of a Christmas movie to me!

I'm so excited to tell you all about this awesome handmade bag shop I've discovered called Bayan Hippo. It's run by Vildan, a fabulously talented woman and mother of twins. If I had a billion dollars I'd buy you each a bag from her shop. Let me tell you why!

First and foremost - Vildan's craftsmanship is outstanding. In fact I could hardly believe my eyes when I first saw my tote bag. Everything looks so professional from the stitching and seems to the hardware to the adorable Bayan Hippo brand tag. The fabric she uses is excellent quality as well which is of course super important if you're anything like me and carry around your entire life in your bag. Plus I seriously love how wide and study the handles are. Not to mention that the over the shoulder strap is removable - SO convenient!

Second, I love the size of this bag in particular. It's HUGE guys! As I mentioned, I may or may not pack up and carry my entire apartment with me every time I go out. Which means I usually need a bag that's approximately the size of a small car. After packing all my gear into this tote I was ridiculously impressed with the fact that I had room to spare! I fit my laptop, camera, wallet, business cards, zipper pouch, phone, mittens, scarf and all my other smaller do-dads in here. It's amazing.

Lastly, pockets. Oh my, the pockets. This bag is an organizers dream come true. It's got two outside pockets and three big inside lining pockets plus a clip to help you keep track of your keys. When you pack as much stuff into your bag as I do pockets can make all the difference in the world. Phone ringing? Don't worry you're not going to miss it, it's in the perfect phone size pocket! Instead of standing at the door for 15 minutes trying to find your keys... violá! There they are attached to your built in clip.

Merry Christmas Friends!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you all are having a fabulous day! Today The Beard, The Bird and I will be sleeping in, eating home-made cinnamon rolls, playing with toys and most of all enjoying being together. I have so much to be thankful for and I try to be thankful everyday. But today especially I am reminded of how thankful I am that there is a God who loves me and a Savior who has redeemed me even though I'm completely undeserving. I'm so thankful for my husband, my friends and family, my beautiful home, all the things and opportunities I've been blessed with AND I'm so very very thankful for YOU my dear friends! I hope your days are merry and bright!

This is the photo we used for our Christmas card. We took it on Beacon Hill, it's such a beautiful part of the city. Christmas Eve!

Hello Friends!

I'm so excited that it's Christmas Eve! The Beard and I had some plans that sadly fell through but that's okay because we've come up with some new {hopefully better} plans. We're going to relax for the first part of the day - this may not sound like a big deal but we've been so busy recently it's going to feel like we've died and gone to heaven - then we're going to head into downtown for a fancy dinner, walk around and look at lights, and for the finale we're going to do our traditional watch A Christmas Story while eating popcorn and drinking champagne. Eeep! I'm really looking forward to it. What are you guys doing for Christmas Eve? Do you have any traditions you're looking forward to?


Historically I've been a strictly red/green Christmas decor type, but recently I've been really attracted to some of the natural decor as well as some of the more pastel styles.

Guest Post::: Dawnelle {Just Dawnelle}

Hello all you gift wrapping elves!

Today's guest post comes from a new friend of mine Dawnelle from Just Dawnelle. I really love her style and I think you will too. You'll see plenty more of her in January also because she's going to be one of our lovely sponsors! Yay!


Now I know everyone but me is practically all decorated and ready for the holidays but I had to share this little project I did. I am completely in love with this little wrap job! (It might be though that I really just like wrapping gifts. Seriously my favorite part about Christmas I think.) 

 I love the mix of fabrics and colors as well as the random placement of the circles here. It has the perfect mix of bohemian, upcycled, hipness to it in my opinion! I think really it just screams... "DAWNELLE"

So let's get on with it!

Strips of scrap fabric (you know the pieces that you cut off to square your fabric edges up work perfectly!)
Card stock
Circle punch (or something to cut out circles... I am just a little obsessed with this circle punch at the moment...)

Begin by punching out all your circles. Super fun and oddly fulfilling... LOVE hole punches...

Once you have a great collection of little circles, marvel at the funness of them a while and then push them to the side. Promise we will get back to them!

Begin tying your strips of fabric together to get the desired length you want. Have fun with the fabric too! It doesn't have to match perfectly... that is what makes it different and exciting. The circles are going to bring it all together and make it cohesive.

When your fabric strips are the desired length begin stapling your circles on. Don't worry about being perfect, that's the fun part!

Once you have your packing all ready... wrap away!! Have fun with it! Seriously... you can make all the your packages like little mini works of art. Okay maybe I like wrapping a little too much...

I'm am super excited about the way they turned out though. Now to just get on and wrap all the rest of my gifts!
