Featured Artist::: Neda Vent Fischer

Hello My Lovelies!

Today is a very cloudy and rainy day here in Boston. I'll admit, it's my favorite type of weather. There's something more soulful, dreamlike about days like today. Somehow anything seems possible. I think so anyways. Today's artist, Neda Vent Fischer, fits perfectly. Dark and transcendent. Her photographs are sublime, don't you think?

Tuesday Treasury

{{{Note::: Please remember these treasuries were not created by me. They were curated by other fabulous Etsy sellers.}}}

This and That

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to share a couple things with you....

First of all, have you guys heard of eShakti? If you haven't you're missing out. They are a clothing company that does complete customization of all their pieces. Clothing made specifically for your body. It's really cool. I'll be doing a more in depth post on them soon {or you can see my previous post about them here} but for now I've got a eShakti coupon code for 20% off your entire purchase!

Use code YELLWBRDYE for 20% off. Valid from 02/26/13 thru 03/10/13.

Second, I wanted to show you this brilliant illustration a friend of mine made for me while I was sick. It brightened up my day so much I couldn't possibly keep it to myself.

Isn't that the cutest thing you've ever seen!?!?!? Thanks so much again Sam. I'm pretty sure this is what gave me that last little nudge I needed :)

I Live! + Thank You Husband

{{{Photo by me}}}

Well friends - I'm still alive! I'm not quite 100%... but you haven't seen the last of me yet. Hahaha.

I want to take a second and tell you {brag} about how amazing my husband is. He went to the store and got me every kind of tea and soup you can think of. He got me lemons and honey, cough drops and Zicam. He made my meals for a week. He filled my water bottle a thousand times a day. He got me tissues and blankets. He made sure I got tons of rest - He barely let me get off the couch. He let me watch Disney movies without making fun of me. He came home from class early on my worst day to rush me to the ER. He made jokes so I would smile. He did everything.

Thank you so much Husbandry, you're the best ever and I would be dead without you.

So, how have you all been? Whatcha been up to the last week and a half?

I'm Sick

Hi friends,

Sorry if you've emailed and I haven't replied. I've been sick for about a week now and finally went in to the ER this afternoon... apparently I have pneumonia. Lame. But they did give me a hot blanket to cuddle while I was there! Can you believe that? It was awesome. {{{Side note about that... this nurse comes in and says, "Here's a blanket for you!". I was like ok... no one has ever offered me a blanket in the hospital before. Then when I touched it and realized it was straight out of the dryer I freaked out! This hospital was amazing. I've never had such a good experience.}}} Anyways, I may not be around much for a few more days. Sorry! Stay well ya'll!

Featured Artist::: Megan Eckman

Hi Friends!

I've had the immense pleasure of chatting with this week's artist, Megan Eckman, and I'm sure you guys are going to love her. Her illustrations are both quirky and charming. And as a special treat, we even get to hear from the artist herself! Welcome Megan!

1. Tell us a little bit about you as a person

   I'm the girl who never grew out of her imagination.  I apologize when I scare birds, I fear monsters in the closet and under the bed, and I'm constantly asking what else could be possible.  I'm an avid book reader, though I'm embarrassed to say that most of my collection is young adult books.  I also love being a mad scientist in the kitchen and have recently taken up vegan cooking just for the fun of it.

2. Tell us about your craft, how you got started, and how you got to where you are today?

   I made a promise to my parents that I would start a business before I graduated with my degrees in creative writing and drawing.  They fully supported my career choice and were happy that I kept my promise.  So, after graduation, I applied to 6 graduate schools...and was rejected by all of them.  I wallowed in ice cream for a little bit but then my boyfriend got accepted into a graduate photography program in San Jose, CA, so we were off on a cross-country trip.  I worked at Borders for 8 months before they closed to pay the exorbitant rent of Silicon Valley.  Once they closed, I took that as a sign that I had to do my own thing.  That was 2 years ago.  I'm now a full-time artist working for myself, creating quirky pen and ink illustrations and writing silly stories for them every day.

3. Where do you get your inspiration from?
   A lot of my inspiration comes from my own imagination.  Oftentimes, I wake up in the morning with a fully-formed idea.  Other times I go for a short walk round the block and, without fail, by the time I come back, something has popped into my head.

4. Who is your favorite artist {other than yourself}?
   Ooh, that's a hard one.  In my own field of pen and ink, Edward Gorey is definitely my favorite.

5. What do you love most about what you do?
   I love that I don't have to answer to anyone.  Unlike in art school, if I want to draw tea pirates, I don't have to justify my decision to my classmates and professors.  That freedom truly sets my mind free.

6. What is your workspace like and what is an essential aspect of your working day?
   Haha.  Oh this is embarrassing.  Since Silicon Valley rent is atrocious, my boyfriend and I live in a one-bedroom apartment.  Two artists, two studios, one tiny apartment.  You see where this is going.  My studio is set up in the kitchen,, where most people would put a dining table.  There's a very large window behind me to let in tons of light and an equally large cork board over my desk that holds inspirational images, cards, Chinese lanterns, and my ever-growing to-do list.  My poor desk is then surrounded by the fridge and the four printers I own.

7. What do you do when you're not working?
   When I'm not working you can usually find me out for a long ride on my road bike.  I put in about 8 hours every week on Paul, my vintage Trek, and I love every moment of it.  The scenery and hills here are simply majestic.

Megan is also working on a 365 portrait challenge, an enormous undertaking if you ask me! I sent her a photo of The Beard and Luna for her to use and the illustration she sent back is just wonderful. See? Isn't this just amazing? It makes me laugh every time I see it. If you want to participate you can read more about the project HERE.

Thank you again Megan for sharing with us and for working with me on this post!
